Google says Android phones are doing a better job than iPhones when it comes to protecting users from scams — and artificial intelligence (AI) is playing a big role in that.
In a new report shared at the end of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Google revealed that AI-powered security features on Android are helping block billions of scam calls and messages every month. Over the last 12 months, scams have led to more than $400 billion in losses globally, and fraudsters are now using AI to make fake messages and calls look more convincing.
Google says its tools are built to stop such threats before they reach users. Every month, Android blocks over 10 billion suspected scam calls and messages. The company also runs safety checks on RCS (Rich Communication Services), blocking around 100 million suspicious numbers just last month.
A Google-commissioned survey by YouGov, which included users from India, the US, and Brazil, found that Android users received fewer scam texts and were more confident about their phone’s security. Pixel users, in particular, reported seeing the least number of scam texts. In fact, iPhone users were 136% more likely than Pixel users to report receiving multiple scam messages in a single week.
Independent researchers also back these findings. A study by Counterpoint Research found that Android devices — especially those from Google, Samsung, and Motorola — have more AI-powered protections than iPhones across 10 key areas such as email filtering, browsing security, and real-time scam detection. Another analysis by Leviathan Security Group rated Android phones, led by the Pixel 10 Pro, as the most secure against scams, crediting features like call screening, scam detection, and real-time fraud alerts.
Google says these AI safeguards work quietly in the background — blocking fake calls, filtering scam texts, and even warning users if someone tries to trick them into downloading risky apps. The goal, Google says, is simple: to help people use their phones with peace of mind, knowing that AI is always watching out for scams before they strike.
