Popular e-commerce platform, Amazon has been in the artificial intelligence market (AI) market for quite some time now with its Alexa voice assistant. However, the company is yet to launch any image or text-generative chatbot, to provide answers or solutions to its users. But, things could change now, as Amazon is reportedly working on a new AI chatbot named ‘Metis’.

According to a report by Business Insider, Metis will use retrieval-augmented generation to provide up-to-date information and automate tasks. It will be also used to deliver text and image-based answers conversationally, similar to other popular chatbots like ChatGPT or Copilot. It will also share links to source responses, suggest follow-up queries, and generate images from custom queries.

Further, the report adds that the chatbot will be powered by Amazon’s own AI model called Olympus, which is more powerful than the publicly available Titan model. This new model would allow Metis to access and incorporate real-time information beyond its initial training data.

Metis also aims to function as an AI agent and could automate complex tasks such as creating travel itineraries, turning on various linked gadgets, and booking flights. With all of these features, Amazon aims to rival other tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and Open AI.
