Amazon layoffs 2025: The e-commerce platform cuts 15% jobs in this department

Amazon is reportedly planning to cut up to 15% of its HR staff as part of a new cost-cutting drive. The layoffs come as the company invests heavily in AI and data centers, even as it hires 250,000 seasonal warehouse workers ahead of the holidays.

Amazon is reportedly planning another round of layoffs, this time targeting its human resources division, known internally as the People eXperience and Technology (PXT) team. According to a report by Fortune, the company could reduce up to 15% of staff in this department, with additional cuts expected in other parts of its core consumer business.

While Amazon has not confirmed the exact number of employees who will lose their jobs, sources say the layoffs are part of a broader effort to reduce costs and streamline operations as the company shifts focus toward artificial intelligence. The PXT team, which includes over 10,000 employees worldwide, handles recruiting, HR technology, and employee support functions.

This move follows a string of job cuts over the past two years. Between late 2022 and 2023, Amazon carried out its largest-ever layoffs, eliminating around 27,000 corporate jobs. CEO Andy Jassy, who took over from founder Jeff Bezos in 2021, has been working to make the company leaner after years of expansion during the pandemic.

At the same time, Amazon is pouring billions into AI development and infrastructure. The company plans to spend roughly $100 billion this year to expand its cloud and data center operations, both for internal use and to serve enterprise customers.
