“AI will make jobs…” Elon Musk once again makes bold prediction about future of work on Nikhil Kamath’s podcast

Elon Musk has once again shared a sweeping prediction about how artificial intelligence and robotics could reshape everyday life. Speaking with Zerodha co founder Nikhil Kamath on the People by WTF podcast, Musk said that work may become something people choose to do rather than something they must do. The episode was released on Sunday and quickly drew attention because of the scale of the future he described.

Musk said that the pace at which AI and machines are improving could change the basic structure of the economy. According to him, machines may soon be capable of producing most goods and services with very little human involvement. If that happens, he said, the idea of working for a living will lose its importance.

His claim was simple. “My prediction is that, in the future, working will be optional,” he told Kamath. He added that people could revisit this prediction in twenty years to see if he was wrong, but he believed it would turn out to be accurate. He said such a future might arrive even faster, possibly within ten to fifteen years, given how quickly AI and robotics are developing. Musk said he was talking about almost every type of work, from basic services to complex production.

He also argued that advanced technology could make goods more accessible. “If AI and robotics continue to advance and they are advancing very fast people will have any goods and services they want,” he said. “If you can think of it, you can have it.”
