Thanks to hundreds by opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Shubman Gill, aided by Sai Sudharsan’s 87, India declared their first innings at a mammoth 518/5 on the second day of the second Test against West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday.
Jaiswal (175) looked good for a double hundred but was run out after Gill turned down his call for a quick single. The Indian captain though remained unbeaten on 129 when he declared his team’s innings.
The West Indies, already trailing the two-Test series 0-1 after losing the first Test in Ahmedabad, got off to a worst possible start, losing opener John Campbell in the eight over.
With 3 overs by Mohammed Siraj, Gill brought in Ravindra Jadeja in the attack and Campbell welcomed him with a paddle sweep for a boundary to the long-leg fence.

Jadeja tossed up the next delivery just outside off and Campbell again went for the slog sweep and he connected brilliantly, leaving Sai Sudharsan looking for cover at forward short leg and also taking his eyes off the ball.
But Sudharsan’s fingers were pointed upwards and the ball somehow clutched along his helmet, chest and hands, and to his credit, he made sure that it didn't pop out.
Campbell fell for 10 and the Windies lost their first wicket with just 21 runs on the board.
Campbell smashed the ball so hard that Sudarshan didn’t get the time to duck and the ball hit his hand so hard that the physio had to be called in for medical aid.
The freak catch even drew a wry smile from India head coach Gautam Gambhir and others in the dressing room.
