A day after Shashi Tharoor appealed Virat Kohli to come out of Test retirement, the Congress MP was handed a reality check on why that may not be needed. The young Indian unit led by Shubman Gill at Oval left Tharoor speechless on Monday. Soon after India defeated England by the barest of margin, Tharoor took to X to congratulate the boys, and also issue an apology for his doubt, which are now cleared.

Like many others, Tharoor's post too echoed wild jubilation. "Words fail me….WHAT A WIN! Absolutely exhilarated and ecstatic for Team India on their series-clinching victory against England! The grit, determination, and passion on display were simply incredible. This team is special.
"I am sorry that I expressed a spasm of doubt about the outcome yesterday. But @mdsirajofficial (Mohammed Siraj) never stopped believing! Shabash to our heroes," it read.
Following the gigantic 195-run partnership between Harry Brook and Joe Root, England were firm favourites but the odds turned right after Brook's dismissal for 111. Shortly after Root too holed out for 105 and by the time Stumps were called, England were 35 runs away from win and India needed four wickets.
It was during the Root-Brook phase, which made Tharoor miss Kohli, particularly the former India captain's "inspirational presence in the field."

Meanwhile, Day 5 promised to be a gripping one and Mohammed Siraj delivered a blockbuster. The pacer allowed England no room to escape as India eventually won the contest by six runs to square the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-2.
