Harleen Deol looked back fondly on her memorable interaction with the legendary MS Dhoni. She suffered a knee injury while representing the Gujarat Giants in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) last year. It sidelined her for about six months before making a comeback during India’s tour of Australia.
The 27-year-old then had the opportunity to meet Dhoni, which she revealed in a video shared by ICC. She claimed that Dhoni himself approached and passed words of encouragement after hearing about her injury.
“I got injured around the time he was in Ranchi. Everyone wanted to meet him, and when he heard about my injury, he reached out himself. He called me, and we ended up having a long, meaningful chat,” Harleen said.
“It was incredible — especially at a time when things weren’t going well for me. He gave me so much motivation that day, and it was truly special,” Harleen added.
Harleen had written a message conveying adoration for Dhoni after the meeting, and called the former India captain as her idol.
Harleen wrote: “The moment which felt surreal. Cherishing every minute spent with my idol. It’s already cold in India But this my #captaincool moment. Have idolised you as a player but after meeting you I am gonna idolise you as a person as well. Still Can’t believe , I really met you.”
In the ongoing ICC Women's ODI World Cup, Harleen Deol has got the start but is yet to convert them into big totals. She scored 48(64) against Sri Lanka and followed it with 46 off 65 balls against Pakistan. In the third match against South Africa, Harleen, however, could only manage 13(23).
