The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly not in the mood for a snap decision, despite another home series defeat against South Africa — the second whitewash in a year. Rather, in the upcoming days, the board will consult with the team management and selectors.
According to a report in The Indian Express, there won't be any significant decisions either, and the team management and selectors will probably choose the same group of players they have been supporting for some time.
Although India overcame the West Indies at home a month ago and had a strong series against England, the loss to South Africa was their third in a row since Gautam Gambhir became head coach. India lost home Test series to South Africa and New Zealand in the past 12 months. The team, however, won the Asia Cup and Champions Trophy in white-ball cricket under his coaching.

Following the series loss on Wednesday, Gambhir was questioned about him being the "right man for the job in Test cricket" to which the head coach left his future up to the BCCI to decide.
“The BCCI will not rush in taking any decision, the team is in a transition phase. As far as coach Gautam Gambhir is concerned, we will not take any decision on him as the World Cup is around the corner and his contract is till the 2027 World Cup. The BCCI will speak to selectors and team management going ahead but there won’t be any knee jerk action,” the report quoted a BCCI official as saying.
India's strategies during the series, particularly moving Washington Sundar's batting position, have drawn harsh criticism. They had no century to show in the two Tests despite the depth in batting. The technique of Indian batsmen were exposed as all struggled in both Tests.

Although any changes are unlikely, the BCCI may call a meeting to consider the future after the South Africa series, the report added.
Head coach Gambhir stated that he dislikes making excuses after India's loss in Guwahati. But he repeatedly cited a young team, transition as potential causes for the outcome at the post-match press conference.
