The unprecedented scenes in the post-match presentation after the thrilling finale between India and Pakistan took a political turn in Dubai on Sunday. After the high-voltage drama that saw Team India celebrating the win minus the trophy, Pakistan cricket team captain Salman Ali Agha pledged his match fee to the civilians and kids killed in the 'India attack.' The reference was not missed, as everyone realised he was talking about India's Operation Sindoor strikes.
"We are donating our match fees to the civilians and the children that were affected in the Indian attack," the Pakistan skipper said during the post-match presentation. Earlier, he was seen throwing away the cheque in frustration. The moment was caught live on camera, even as many questioned the way the PCB handled the loss.
The evening's drama began when the Indian team refused to approach the stage, insisting they would only accept the trophy from Emirates Cricket Board vice-chairman Khalid Al Zarooni. PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, however, stood his ground, leading to a prolonged standoff before organisers quietly removed the trophy. Indian fans in the stands made their stance clear, echoing chants of "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" as Naqvi attempted to press on with the presentation.
Pakistan's players, meanwhile, remained in the dressing room for nearly an hour before emerging to collect their cheques-only to see skipper Salman Ali Agha vent his anger in public.
On the field, the final itself lived up to the hype. Chasing Pakistan's 146 after a dramatic collapse from 113-1, India recovered from a shaky 20-3 start. Tilak Varma anchored the chase with a brilliant 69 off 53 balls, while Shivam Dube's composed 33 ensured stability. The duo stitched together a 60-run stand that shifted momentum decisively in India's favour. Rinku Singh then sealed the win with a boundary off the only ball he faced in the tournament, taking India to 150-5 with two deliveries left. Earlier, Kuldeep Yadav's 4-30 had ripped through Pakistan's lower order, capping a dramatic collapse.
The final, the first-ever India-Pakistan clash for an Asia Cup title, proved as charged off the field as it was on it, underscoring the intensity of one of cricket's fiercest rivalries.
