On 12 August 2026, the moon will cast its shadow across some of Earth’s most striking landscapes. The total solar eclipse will be the first to touch mainland Europe since 1999, and travellers are already planning where to watch.

Spain promises wine, castles and rare sky views
In Spain, Ribera del Duero will offer one minute and 43 seconds of totality. A summit hosted by Capture the Atlas will teach eclipse photography, led by leading astrophotographers.

Nearby, Castillo de Peñaranda de Duero, a fortress built in the 10th century, will serve as another prime viewing spot. Guests can also enjoy the Perseids meteor shower after the eclipse.

In La Rioja, small groups can climb Alto de la Agenanza for one minute and 37 seconds of totality. The evening will finish with a village fiesta below the mountain.
