NASA Confirms Safe Flyby of 2025 KX8
NASA has reported that asteroid 2025 KX8 is approaching Earth. The object will make its closest pass on 4 June. Measuring around 120 feet across, it is the size of a small aircraft.
It will fly past at a distance of 1.99 million kilometres. That is close in astronomical terms, but not dangerous. KX8 is part of the Aten group, which often crosses Earth’s orbit.
NASA said there is no collision risk from KX8. To be classed as hazardous, an object must meet two rules. It must be larger than 150 metres and come within 7.4 million kilometres. KX8 does not fit either condition.
Still, experts are paying attention to its path. Even the smallest change could shift its direction. Scientists continue to track it carefully to ensure safety. They expect a smooth pass with no problems.
ISRO Looks Ahead to Future Threats
Although KX8 is not a danger, other risks exist. India’s space agency ISRO is already focusing on the future. A major event is expected in 2029, involving asteroid Apophis.
ISRO chairman S. Somanath recently spoke on this concern. He said space defence should be a top priority. The agency may partner with NASA, ESA, and JAXA.
Somanath said an impact could be devastating. To prepare, ISRO is planning asteroid landing missions. These would help test ways to limit future threats.
