A peaceful village in Karnataka has been shaken by a disturbing sight. Twenty peacocks, including three males and 17 females, were found dead near a stream in Hanumanthapura. Local farmers spotted the carcasses scattered across the farmland early in the morning.
Forest officials inspect site after peacock deaths
Forest officers reached the scene soon after being informed. They inspected the site and collected the bodies for examination. The carcasses were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory. Authorities are awaiting test results to confirm the cause of death, according to NDTV.
This incident adds to a worrying trend of animal deaths. It follows recent cases involving monkeys and a tigress with her cubs.
Pattern of wildlife deaths raises concern
On 2 July, 20 monkeys were found dead in Chamarajanagar. Officials suspect they were poisoned, but investigations are ongoing.
The loss of the national bird comes weeks after another tragedy. In June, a tigress and four cubs were found dead in Male Mahadeshwara Hills Wildlife Sanctuary. The bodies were discovered inside the Hoogyam range of the Meenyam forest area.
Investigators believe the tigress had killed a cow and dragged it to the forest. After eating the meat, the tigress and her cubs died. Officials suspect the cow was poisoned by local villagers before the big cats returned to feed.
As the investigation continues, forest officials are on high alert. They are working to understand what caused the peacock deaths. Locals and wildlife experts alike are hoping for answers soon.
