In Hinduism, the holy month of Shravan, also called Sawan, is extremely significant spiritually. In 2025, Sawan will be observed from July 25 to August 23 in South and Western India, and from July 11 to August 9 in North India. The month will start on July 16 and end on August 16 in Nepal and some areas of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. During this sacred time, Lord Shiva is particularly worshipped, and followers from all over the world observe fasts and rituals in an effort to obtain his divine blessings. The Sawan Somwar Vrat, which is observed on Mondays, is thought to be the most auspicious of these for winning Lord Shiva's favor.

In 2025, the Sawan Somwar vrat dates differ by region due to the variations in regional lunar calendars — Purnimanta (North India), Amanta (South and Western India), and the Solar calendar followed in parts of Nepal, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh.

Significance of Sawan Somwar Vrat

Sawan Somwar Vrat is a spiritual observance dedicated to Lord Shiva, believed to grant health, prosperity, and marital bliss. Many devotees also begin the Solah Somwar Vrat (16 consecutive Mondays) starting from the first Somwar of Shravan. Fasting, offering milk and bel-patra to the Shivling, and reciting Shiva mantras are key practices.
