Haridwar is witnessing a massive spiritual gathering as thousands of Kanwar pilgrims have reached Har Ki Pauri to collect holy Gangajal during the ongoing Kanwar Yatra 2025. The annual pilgrimage, which began on July 10, sees devotees of Lord Shiva travel long distances on foot to offer the sacred water at various Shiva temples.
Every year, during the month of Shravan, Kanwar Yatra in Haridwar becomes a symbol of unmatched devotion. Devotees across India observe fasts, chant bhajans, and walk hundreds of kilometres with Kanwars (sacred pots) filled with Ganga water. This year too, Har Ki Pauri is glowing with spiritual energy as Kanwariyas throng the ghats.
Meerut Schools to Remain Closed During Kanwar Yatra
In view of the large-scale Kanwar movement and road closures, all schools and colleges in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh have been declared shut from July 16 to July 23. District Magistrate VK Singh stated that the step was taken keeping in mind the safety of students and parents, as Kanwar routes intersect several areas of the city.
Arrangements to Support the Pilgrims
To ensure a smooth yatra for Kanwariyas, the administration has taken several steps. Over 45 km of the Kanwar Path has been lined with temporary lighting to assist the pilgrims walking during night hours. The Radhna route to Pura Mahadev, stretching 42 km, has also been lit up entirely. In addition to fixed lighting, 17 mobile lighting vehicles have been deployed across the route. These vehicles are equipped with LED lights and will respond swiftly in case of any blackout or emergency, ensuring uninterrupted movement for Kanwariyas.
The Kanwar Yatra 2025 continues to be a grand spiritual event that unites people in devotion and showcases the cultural richness of Sanatan Dharma. With support from local authorities and growing participation from youth and families alike, the pilgrimage remains one of the largest religious gatherings in India.
