Sajjan Kumar Sentenced to Life in 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots Case

Former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar was found guilty in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case and sentenced to life imprisonment. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja pronounced the verdict for the killings of Jaswant Singh and his son in Delhi’s Saraswati Vihar. The complainant sought the death penalty, arguing Kumar incited genocide. Kumar, 81, was already serving a life sentence for another riot-related case. The Nanavati Commission reported 2,733 deaths, with only 28 convictions. Sikh groups demanded the death penalty ahead of the ruling. Kumar remains in Tihar Jail, convicted for multiple riot-related murders and the burning of a gurdwara.
