A woman has come forward with allegations of sexual harassment against a senior executive of Jindal Steel aboard an Etihad Airways flight from Kolkata to Abu Dhabi. The incident, shared on X (formerly Twitter), described how the executive, reportedly in his sixties, initiated small talk before allegedly showing her pornographic clips and groping her.
According to the woman's post, she was seated next to the accused on the flight. They engaged in a "normal conversation" about their backgrounds and families. However, the situation took a disturbing turn when the man offered to show her movie clips on his phone. "He whips out his phone and earphones to show me PORN!” she wrote. She further detailed, “He started groping me. I was frozen in shock and scare. I eventually ran off to the washroom and complained to the air staff."
The woman praised the responsiveness of the Etihad Airways crew, who immediately took action. She was relocated to their seating area and provided with tea and fruits. Despite the intervention, the accused allegedly demanded the crew inform him of her whereabouts. The airline notified the authorities in Abu Dhabi, leading to the man's detention upon arrival.
In her post, the woman expressed her intention to bring the incident to the attention of Naveen Jindal, the Chairman of Jindal Steel, highlighting concerns about the behaviour of those in leadership positions within the company. "I am working to get this incident out to the chairman of Jindal Steel @MPNaveenJindal so that he is aware of the kind of people who are in leadership. I am also afraid of how this molester must be treating his female employees from a place of power,” she wrote.
She concluded by stating that despite feeling "rattled and disturbed" and "violated," she chose to speak out to prevent such incidents from happening to others. “This never happens to another woman,” she added.
The woman's post on X garnered a lot of attention in a short span of time and also caught the attention of MP Naveen Jindal.
Jindal quickly responded to the post and wrote, "Dear Ananya, thank you for reaching out and speaking up! It takes a lot of courage to do what you did and I want you to know that we have a zero tolerance policy for such matters. I have asked the team to immediately investigate the matter and thereafter strictest and necessary action will be taken."
