MC Summer Dashboard: Heat wave days rise further in third week of June

North India has been facing a heat wave, with most states experiencing a rise in heat wave days as summers progress. A Moneycontrol analysis of data by Indian Meteorological Department shows that heat wave days faced by north Indian states increased further in the third week of June compared with the previous week, with some of the sub-divisions like Haryana, Delhi and Chandigarh experiencing 7 heat wave days between June 13 and June 19.

Meanwhile, monsoon tracker indicates that north Indian states are also yet to receive normal rainfall, as most states in the region are staring at rainfall deficits of over 50%. In Delhi, rainfall was 95% below the long-term average of 30 years, which is described as normal.
