South Korean singer and actor Nana fought off an armed intruder at her home in Guri, near Seoul, with help from her mother. The 34-year-old celebrity, whose real name is Im Jin-ah, and her mother were injured during the confrontation and are currently receiving treatment.
Local police told news agency AFP that a man in his 30s broke into Nana’s residence early Saturday, armed with a weapon, and demanded money. “She and her mother overpowered the intruder, a man in his 30s, in a physical struggle, resulting in his arrest,” a detective at Guri Police Station said. The suspect, who reportedly intended to steal valuables, has been detained on charges of aggravated robbery.
Mother lost consciousness, both hospitalised
Yonhap news agency reported that Nana’s mother lost consciousness during the altercation. "Nana also sustained physical injuries while trying to escape the dangerous situation. The mother has regained consciousness, and both of them are currently in need of treatment and complete rest," it reported.
The intruder was also hospitalised after being restrained by the two women.
From K-pop to crime drama star
Nana first rose to prominence as part of Orange Caramel, a sub-unit of the girl group After School. The trio's music video for "Catallena" has more than 35 million views on YouTube. She then transitioned into acting, landing several leading roles in television dramas.
Nana's agency has not responded to AFP's request for comment.
