A graduate of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Bombay, from the 2022-23 batch, secured the highest international job offer with a salary of Rs 3.67 crore per annum in the annual placements, the institute said.
Another graduate landed a job in India with a salary of Rs 1.68 crore per annum, in the highest domestic placement.
While 16 graduates have accepted job offers with salaries above Rs 1 crore per annum, 65 have taken up international offers in the 2022-23 placement season. The foreign jobs are from different companies based in USA, Japan, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
The average salary of the students placed this season was Rs 21.82 lakhs per annum (CTC), a marginal increase as compared to the previous year, according to IIT-Bombay’s placement and internship report.
In another milestone, the latest round of placements also saw a record 1,516 IIT Bombay graduates securing jobs out of the 1,845 students who actively participated in the process.
Most of the jobs are in the engineering and technology sector. Information technology (IT) and software hiring has been less this season compared to last year, IIT Bombay said. Around 302 students were offered IT/software jobs by over 88 companies. Other sectors that recruited students include trading, banking, fintech, education and design.
IIT Bombay slipped one spot in the Ministry of Education's National Institutional Ranking Framework rankings of India’s educational institutes in 2023, published in June.
Last month, IIT Bombay was in the news after it received a whopping Rs 160 crore in donation from an anonymous donor. The generous donation came close on the heels of Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, an IIT-Bombay alumnus, donating Rs 315 crore to the institute to mark 50 years of his association with it.
