A unique service in the United States is giving employees the opportunity to voice their complaints through an anonymous intermediary. This service, which allows workers to have their bosses “scolded” on their behalf, has taken the internet by storm.
Launched earlier this year by Calimar White, a stand-up comedian and actor with nearly 2,80,000 Instagram followers, the company—called OCDA—has struck a chord with workers who fear retaliation for speaking out.
White, whose idea is gaining traction especially on social media, claims that the service’s mission is clear: “To rectify complaints and create a better work environment,” according to the company’s website. As a non-profit, OCDA focuses on promoting a culture of respect and responsiveness within workplaces.
The company operates through “scolder” agents who, upon receiving a complaint, visit a client’s workplace to confront the boss or colleague with a prepared script of grievances. Despite any discomfort or anger from the boss, the scolder is obligated to deliver the critique exactly as scripted, ensuring the employee’s concerns are acknowledged.
If the agent cannot appear in person, the confrontation is done over the phone. In either case, the results are uploaded to OCDA’s YouTube channel, which boasts over 80,000 followers.
One recent video showed an agent confronting “Mr. LJ,” a boss who had received complaints about his workplace management. As the agent entered Mr. LJ’s office, he immediately launched into a tirade: “I’ve been working for over 17 years, yet you don’t give me PTO (paid time off), and you’re paying the new hires more than the veterans. The entire inventory is disorganised. There’s no fan in the moulding section …”
Despite repeated requests to stop, the agent continued with the script, refusing to deviate. The video, posted to OCDA's YouTube, has been met with both amusement and approval from viewers.
The service has become a hit on social media, particularly after influencer "The Feedski" showcased it to her 800,000 followers on TikTok on November 7. The video quickly went viral, racking up more than 9.4 million views. One viewer commented, “This guy will be a millionaire in no time. What a genius idea!”
Despite the humour and intrigue surrounding this concept, the service raises important questions about workplace culture, employee rights, and how businesses address internal concerns.
