A three-month-long search for a lost pet came to a heartwarming conclusion on Saturday when a Gurgaon couple finally reunited with their dog in Agra. The 10-year-old Indian breed, named Greyhound, was found wandering in the dense forests near the Taj Mahal, nearly 90 days after she went missing.
Dipayan Ghosh and Kasturi Patra, Greyhound’s owners, left no stone unturned in their desperate attempt to locate their pet. Their exhaustive search spanned drone surveillance, CCTV footage analysis, door-to-door inquiries, and a Rs 50,000 reward.
According to the Times of India, the couple had checked into a hotel in Agra in early November, along with their two dogs, Woof and Greyhound, to celebrate the Diwali long weekend.
However, on November 3, while the couple was visiting Fatehpur Sikri, they received an urgent call from their hotel. Greyhound had slipped her leash and disappeared.
Two days later, CCTV footage captured her near the Taj Mahal metro station. However, beyond that, there was no sign of the missing dog.
Determined to find Greyhound, Dipayan and Kasturi stayed in Agra for two weeks, distributing posters, banners, and personally canvassing the area where she had vanished. Even after returning to Gurgaon, they frequently travelled back to Agra, making the search their priority.
They increased their reward offer from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000, plastering notices across walls, auto-rickshaws, shops, and metro stations. Their campaign extended to social media, where animal rescue groups and volunteers joined the effort.
Meanwhile, the couple sifted through hundreds of hours of grainy CCTV footage, deployed drones to scan alleyways, and even enlisted the help of police dogs. However, none of these efforts led to a breakthrough.
According to Samridhi Sirohi, an animal rescuer, Greyhound was sighted in the forests near the Taj Mahal. However, locals mistook her for a wolf and threw stones at her, forcing her to retreat deeper into the wilderness.
On Friday, the couple finally received the call they had been waiting for. Prashant Jain, a tour guide, spotted Greyhound and immediately contacted Dipayan and Kasturi.
Without hesitation, they rushed back to Agra—this time, with hope in their hearts.
That evening, Kasturi stood in the darkness and called out Greyhound’s name.
"She didn’t recognise Dipayan’s voice," Kasturi told TOI. "But when I called her name, she heard me. And then she ran—thin, weak, but running."
A viral video capturing the moment shows a thin and scared Greyhound recognising her owners and running towards them, bringing the long and painful search to an end.
Social media users were deeply moved by the unwavering dedication of Dipayan and Kasturi, with many praising their relentless efforts to bring their beloved pet home.
