Not enough evidence to issue RCN against Mallya: Interpol srcs

The Interpol has completed an initial review of India's application seeking a red-corner notice (RCN) against beleaguered tycoon Vijay Mallya and has decided there is no case to issue a notice rightaway.

The international police organization has ruled that India has not proved criminal offence on the part of Mallya and that there is no concrete evidence at this point to issue an RCN, CNBC-TV18 has learned.

Sources say Interpol is now likely to send a directive to Vijay Mallya seeking his view on the government's request and that a complete review of the application, which will likely to take two-three months, cannot be completed with statement of the reported "offender".

Mallya, whose Kingfisher Airlines was grounded after mounting a Rs 6,000 crore debt burden (now about Rs 10,000 crore including penalties), is facing a string of default-related cases and has moved himself to the UK citing a witch-hunt from the media.
