New aviation policy will be out soon says Mahesh Sharma, MoS, Civil Aviation in an interview to CNBC-TV18’s Rituparna Bhuyan, addding that they will also ensure that it is a win-win situation for all the airline companies with respect to 5/20 rule.Below is the verbatim transcript of Mahesh Sharma's interview with Rituparna Bhuyan on CNBC-TV18.Q: 5/20 rule has split the industry into half, what is the aviation ministry's stand on this very controversial rule?A: Aviation industry has taken this call in a holistic approach. We have discussed it with the group of officers, group of ministers, stakeholders, the group of Federation of Indian Airline operators also and we have particularly reached to a conclusion which is a win-win situation for all of them, for the government of India also and for the airlines operators also.Q: Can we expect that the 5/20 rule will come into effect but the other side of this policy would be that some airlines might get impacted, can there be balance between this?A: We will ensure that a level-playing situation is being played over there and there is a win-win situation for all of them.Q: What about aviation policy? We expected the aviation policy to be out but in spite of your assurances it is not out yet.A: There are certain issues which are national, international, be it bilateral, be it the 5/20 rule, be it the new scheme of regional connectivity. All these things are being taken for the first time. We propose that this should be given due consideration, due diligence should be done before taking this consideration as a part of the policy.Q: Ticket prices has caused a lot of inconvenience to commuters, will the aviation minister take note of this?A: That is our concern also. We have taken measures for that but as you know that at present we have an open air policy and the regulating mechanism is not there worldwide. So, we don’t want to regulate it through our regulator DGCA, we want to do it through the consensus mode with different airlines.
