A ministerial panel is believed to have recommended conditional approval to start production from Chhatrasal and Mahan coal mines in Madhya Pradesh.

A Group of Ministers (GoM), headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, has given the green signal for Reliance Power's Chhatrasal coal block and Mahan mine to be jointly developed by Essar amd Hindalco, sources said.
The clearances are subject to conditions including mandatory spending of 5 per cent of the total project cost towards corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities. Anil Ambani group firm Reliance Power was alloted Chhatrasal mine for its 4,000-MW ultra-mega power project at Sasan.
The Mahan coal block was jointly allocated to Essar and Hindalco for thermal power plant.
