Nandan Nilekani, the poster boy of the IT industry is reportedly returning to Bangalore but for a different reason this time. He is getting ready to battle it out with the BJP in the IT city in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The actual announcement of Nilekani's candidature isn't expected until December. However, CNBC-TV's Vineetha Athrey checks on what Bangaloreans make of Nilekani's nomination.

Infosys CEO; Chairman, UIDAI; and now possibly congress candidate in Lok Sabha elections, 2014 - Nandan Nilekani is reportedly getting ready to fight for a new role in life as he represents the congress from Bangalore south that is his home region.

He will be taking on sitting BJP MP Ananth Kumar. But this will be no easy fight, considering Bangalore south is a BJP stronghold and the party has won in the constituency for the last 25 years. While the BJP declined to comment, the congress is banking on Nilekani's image to work in their favour

G Parameshwara, President, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee said, “We will design our own strategy to see that he wins. He also carries a respectable position in society; he has his own name and a clean image and is an icon of IT. So definitely younger generation would feel happy to select such a person in Lok Sabha.”

Comments by some Bangaloreans:

“If he wins he can bring lot of reforms and changes. He being a business person can bring lot of changes in business.”

“ It is a good move because he anyways has a clean and good corporate image as well, so I believe there would be different thought process which would come if we have leaders like him."

“Since he is from corporate environment, he would be able to contribute more towards the growth of corporates as well as youngsters like us”

Political experts and former IT industry colleagues are also upbeat about Nilekani's chances. Indeed, if the BJP stronghold in the region can be broken and it all goes well for the UIDAI Champion, then he could add "MP" to his own unique id next year.
