FDI in retail: Is TMC the new Left? Derek O'brien clarifies

In his interview to CNBC-TV18, Trinamool Congress (TMC) spokesperson, Derek O'brien said the party maintains its 'clear and consistent' stand in the portfolio and that there is no question of any more caveats which may bring a change of mind.

The Member of Parliament of Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Party's spokesperson, Derek O'brien spoke to CNBC-TV18 to explain the perspective behind TMC's demand for FDI in retail. In his interview, O'brien said the party maintains its 'clear and consistent' stand in the portfolio and that there is no question of any more caveats which may bring a change of mind.

"Based on the NSSO figures, we believe that this entire FDI in multi-brand retail is only talking about the 9%, and the balance 91% for consumer expenditure includes milk and other goods. Fresh fruit and vegetables part is only 9%. Hence, this is our very strong position based on this important fact," he further pointed out.
