Michelin star chef Vikas Khanna, who flew Air India, praised the airline and shared a glimpse of the business class seats of the aircraft. “Possibly one of the most beautiful aircraft I’ve flown in. And impeccable service…Yes. This. Is. Air. India,” an impressed Khanna tweeted.
Air India responded, thanking Vikas Khanna, who is New York-based, for the generous review.
“That's a beautiful view, Mr. Khanna! We're delighted to hear that you were impressed with the service. It gives us immense pleasure to know that we could make your flight comfortable,” Air India tweeted.
“Can't wait to share the skies with you again soon!”
The positive feedback from the high-profile flyer comes less than a fortnight after another celebrity chef, Sanjeev Kapoor, blasted Air India over the meal served to him on a domestic flight.
The veteran cookery show host had shared photos of his meal on a Nagpur to Mumbai flight, describing the food items such as “cold” chicken tikka, sandwich with very little filling and a dessert that was essentially “sugar syrup”.
“Wake Up @airindiain Nagpur-Mumbai 0740 flight. Cold Chicken Tikka with watermelon, cucumber, tomato and sev. Sandwich with minuscule filling of chopped cabbage with mayo. Sugar syrup Sponge painted with sweetened cream and yellow glaze,” Kapoor tweeted, sharing photos of his meal.
“Really! Is this what Indians should eat for breakfast?” he said in another tweet, slamming the Tata-owned carrier.
Air India, or “Maharaja”, landed back in the hands of its founders in January last year, nearly seven decades after it was nationalised and following years in debt. Tata Group was back in charge of Air India after concluding the Rs 18,000 crore deal.
The historic handover marked the end of a long search for a buyer by the government, which has spent nearly crores propping up the airline since 2009.
The airline recently went in for fleet augmentation after having signed up for five B777-200LR which were earlier operated by Delta, and later, six B777-300ER. These B777-300ERs are in a four-class configuration, while the Delta planes are in three-class configuration, with a premium economy, not first class.
