Bengaluru-based software engineer Ashish Jha sparked a unique trend after he shared a picture of the view from his flat and mentioned that the rent is Rs 80,000. While social media users were initially taken aback, it was later revealed that the 26-year-old lived in a 3-BHK which he shared with two other flatmates.
Jha also told Moneycontrol that he preferred paying more to live near his workplace than moving into a more pocket-friendly place one or two hours away.
"Also, I respect my time more than money," he said. "When I moved from Noida to Bengaluru, I had made up my mind that I would cut the daily commute time as much as possible since in my previous job, I had to travel from Noida to Delhi."
The post on X, however, became viral and soon people began to share pictures of views from their respective homes with the details of their location and the rent. Social media users from Bengaluru and other cities such as Mumbai joined the bandwagon.
Meanwhile, responding to comments regarding the high rent and possible water and electricity problems, Jha said, "Not every area in the city has a water problem, electricity problem. To add to it some areas actually have a very functional metro. And if you live in such a area close to the city center, the rents are meant to be high."
