A software engineer in Bengaluru lost Rs 13.5 lakh to a man posing as a recruiter while he was looking for a job in the aviation sector. The 43-year-old techie realised that he had been cheated after waiting around a month for the appointment letter.
According to the complaint, Sacchidananda BS, a resident of Anjanapura, had applied for a job in the aviation sector for a company a month ago. On August 16, he received a call from a person, who identified himself as a representative of a leading aviation company and said that he was looking to hire for a senior role with a salary of Rs 46 lakh per annum, The Hindu reported. Sacchidananda was even interviewed online by the alleged imposter before being selected, he stated in the complaint.
The man then told Sacchidananda that he needed to complete a few formalities before sending him the joining letter and on the pretext of medical expenses, document verification, etc. kept asking Sacchidananda to pay up. When the amount eventually added up to Rs 13.54 lakh, the accused cut off all communication with Sacchidananda.
The software engineer waited for about a month for the offer letter before approaching the police. Officials from the cybercrime department are currently on the lookout for the accused.
