Family members suspected that the reptile may have bitten Manju Prakash before suffocating inside the enclosed slipper.

A 41-year-old software professional, employed with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), died after being bitten by a snake that had hidden in his footwear at his residence in Bengaluru’s Bannerghatta locality. The deceased was identified as Manju Prakash, a resident of Ranganatha Layout.

According to accounts provided by his family and local police, Prakash had gone out around 12.45 pm on Saturday to purchase sugarcane juice. On returning home, he wore his Crocs slippers, unaware that a snake had taken shelter inside them. He later went to his room to rest.

Relatives explained that Prakash did not appear to realise he had been bitten, as he had lost sensation in one of his legs following a road accident in 2016. That earlier incident had resulted in surgery and lasting numbness.

His brother told reporters, “On returning home, Prakash went to his room and slept. After nearly an hour, a labourer who visited our house noticed a snake just outside the pair of Crocs. Upon checking, it was found that the snake was dead.”
