Bengaluru stampede kills 11: Netizens slam crowd control. 'Don't want this kind of celebration'

At least 11 people were feared dead and several others injured following chaos, as a large number of people thronged near the Chinnaswamy Stadium here to participate in the RCB victory celebrations on Wednesday afternoon, official sources said.

Police used mild force to control the crowd and bring the situation under control ahead of a special felicitation at the stadium for the RCB team organised by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). According to eye-witnesses, a stampede-like situation emerged as fans thronged the venue of felicitation. Visuals showed police shifting the injured persons and those who fell unconscious in ambulances to nearby hospitals.

As visuals doing rounds on social media showed some of those who were in an unconscious state being administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by those nearby, several online users slammed the organisers, RCB, and the government for poor crowd management. A few commented that this was not the kind of celebration they wanted, while many others called for the celebrations to be cancelled in the wake of this tragedy.

"Terrible tragedy! The tragic stampede at the RCB victory parade is a stark reminder of the dangers of inadequate crowd management. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families," commented Inderjit Bhatti (@dozenzone). "Bengaluru couldn’t handle the crowd, but Mumbai’s Marine Drive saw lakhs of fans celebrating India’s T20 World Cup win peacefully. A massive victory parade was held — no chaos, no stampede. Just perfect crowd control," wrote Prakash Tada (@tadapk137). Another X user (@IshaSG) added, "Open area, moving people... How on earth did the police deny the parade for too much of a crowd, and then allow them inside a stadium with no entry/exit control? Complete failure by Bengaluru administration."
Several other social media users also highlighted the lack of civic sense as a possible reason for the stanpede.

Santhosh (@FormAndFade) said, "The problem lies with us we don’t follow rules. When will we learn basic civic sense? Just follow the queue and stay in your lane, and everything will be fine. But no, we keep pushing each other whether it’s at the railway station, on buses, or public places, What we truly lack is civic sense, and that says it all."
