The event, hosted by the Velammal Educational Trust, was part of the nationwide celebrations marking the 11th International Yoga Day on June 21.

Tamil Nadu Governor Ravindra Narayana Ravi astonished a gathering of over 10,000 students on Saturday morning by completing 51 push-ups during an International Yoga Day event held at the Velammal Educational Institution in Madurai.

The 73-year-old Governor, known for his disciplined lifestyle, participated in the mass yoga session with unflagging energy, performing all yoga asanas alongside students and trainers. However, it was his impromptu push-up demonstration that truly stole the show. Discarding his formal attire in favour of a tracksuit and vest, Ravi embraced the spirit of the event, completing the push-ups with effortless grace and precision.

The crowd, largely comprising students, teachers and spectators, erupted in applause as the Governor finished the push-ups consecutively without pause.

A video capturing the moment surfaced on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), quickly going viral and earning admiration from users across the country. The Governor’s fitness, posture and stamina drew widespread praise.

Raj Bhavan Tamil Nadu also shared highlights from the event on its official X handle, posting:

Ten years ago, Yoga, India’s profound gift to humanity, codified by the great sage Patanjali who was born on the sacred soil of Tamil Nadu, was introduced to the global stage. Since then, it has grown into a worldwide movement, inspiring holistic well-being and a global awakening toward conscious, healthy living. He urged the youth to embrace yoga as a lifelong companion on their journey toward personal growth and excellence.”
