Entrepreneur and Shark Tank India's former judge Ashneer Grover on Monday made a veiled hit at actor Ranveer Singh over his Maldives-Lakshadweep post on social media. The actor had earlier shared a post on X in support of Lakshadweep tourism but had used a photograph of Maldives instead.
Amid the ongoing row between India and Maldives -- after some of the island country's ministers made derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi -- Ranveer Singh's post caused a stir in social media with many calling out the actor for his oversight. Among them was Ashneer Grover.
"There is some movie star, previously inactive on Twitter, who is now copy-pasting the same message to visit Indian islands -- without knowing where Lakshadweep is and in parallel hiding previous Maldive story on Insta," he wrote on X, retweeting a post by comedian and actor Vir Das on the same issue.
Although Grover did not name the actor in his post, his followers and other X users were quick to point out Ranveer Singh's blunder.
A few others pointed out that the actor cannot be blamed alone because some politicians too had made the same mistake.
Meanwhile, the Maldives government on Sunday suspended three deputy ministers who have come under fire for the "derogatory" remarks on social media against PM Modi's visit to Lakshadweep Islands.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs today issued a statement on the stand of the Government of India in relation to some posts on social media that are insulting to neighboring India," said a statement issued by the Maldives government."Those who made such posts on social media while in government positions have now been suspended from their jobs."
While the official statement did not name the ministers, local media reports said three deputy ministers - "Mariyam Shiuna, Malsha Sharyf and Mahzoom Majid" -- have been suspended by the government.
