A video shared by Anand Mahindra on social media has ignited an online debate after some users questioned its authenticity, calling it “scripted.” The industrialist, however, dismissed the scepticism, urging critics to focus on the message rather than the motive.
The clip in question was originally posted on Instagram by content creator Seenu Malik in August 2024 as part of his "365 Good Day Challenge." It captured a moment between Malik and a specially abled man, highlighting an act of kindness that resonated widely on social media.
The footage showed a specially abled man taking selfies in front of a parked Porsche. When Malik noticed him, the man, appearing visibly apprehensive, attempted to walk away, possibly fearing the owner’s reaction. Instead of confronting him, Malik reassured the man, took photos for him, and even offered him a ride in the luxury vehicle.
The video quickly gained traction, amassing over 9 million views, with many praising Malik’s compassion and generosity.
Upon discovering the video, Mahindra was deeply moved and reshared it on X (formerly Twitter), commending both Malik and the car’s owner.
In his post, he wrote: "This video is, I believe, over a year old. I saw it only recently and couldn’t help being greatly moved. First, thank you to the car’s owner for his generosity of spirit and empathy. And I have to say, as a car manufacturer, it is good to be reminded of the uninhibited joy and delight cars can provide to people.
"That is how I hope our designers and engineers at Mahindra—both current and future—will always approach the creative process: by keeping in mind that cars are more than just devices of transportation. When designed with passion, they can deliver joy to all who experience them."
While many users applauded the heartwarming moment, some questioned the genuineness of the video, claiming it was scripted. One user commented: "Scripted, sir."
Mahindra addressed the criticism directly, stating: "Perhaps. But I’m focusing on the message, not the motive. We all know there is enough content out there on social media where neither the motive nor the message is fit for consumption."
His reply quickly gained traction, with many users praising his perspective and agreeing that the video’s message outweighed concerns about its authenticity.
