Anand Mahindra has often shared inspirational stories on his social media platforms, especially X (formerly Twitter), which has generated great levels of interest in his followers.
Speaking at the 4th Atal Bihari Vajpayee Memorial Lecture recently, Mahindra recalled the time when his young daughter was injured in an accident and spoke about the lesson he learnt from the incident.
In a video shared by Harsh Goenka on X (formerly Twitter), Mahindra spoke about the hand injury his daughter sustained in 1987 and how a suggestion by a doctor in Paris made him return to India and consult Dr. Joshi in Mumbai.
Mahindra's daughter underwent a successful surgery in Mumbai which taught him "a powerful lesson" of looking for solutions in one's own country before looking overseas for help.
"I have told and retold this story because it taught me one powerful lesson: always look for solutions in your backyard before you think that the best solution lies overseas," Mahindra said in the video.
He also said that he implemented the takings from the incident into his businesses and never lacked the courage to use homegrown technology while making key business decisions.
"And how did this affect me and my career? Well, I'm certain there after that, when it came to making big decisions and big bets in business that were based on homegrown technology, I never again lacked the courage to do so," he said.
The video saw a lot of user comments, who praised Mahindra for putting faith in India to complete key tasks rather than look overseas.
"Loved it sir . Yourself , Mahindra sir , Tata and group etc etc are making India Great with great Made In India products and taking to the world stage," one user wrote.
"Lovely story and important life lesson!" another user wrote.
