Popular Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Oppo has also joined the artificial intelligence hype and released its plans for introducing generative AI features on its devices. According to a new press release shared by the company, it plans to release more than 100 new AI features to its 50 million smartphone userbase by the end of this year.
The company also plans to collaborate with tech giants like Google and Microsoft, to enhance user experience and provide AI accessibility in areas like image processing, charging, and more. Oppo claims to have filed more than 5,399 AI patents globally.
Oppo has established a new AI Centre in Shenzhen to further AI technologies with the help of popular chipset manufacturers Qualcomm and MediaTek. Further, Pete Lau, Chief Product Officer of OPPO stated, “We are dedicated to becoming a contributor and promoter of AI smartphones. We look forward to working with our industry partners to jointly drive the innovation of the mobile phone industry and reshape the intelligent experience of mobile phones.”
Additionally, Oppo has also developed its Large Language Models (LLMs) since 2020 and is the first smartphone brand to deploy an LLM with 7 billion parameters directly on its devices. This would enable Oppo smartphones with Google Gemini features like AI Writer and AI Recording Summary, according to the company.
Oppo is also working with Microsoft to bring more efficient, accurate, and natural voice and text conversions with the help of Microsoft Fast Transcription and Neural TTS services.
