Google has revealed that its wide range of editing tools — powered by AI — will now be available to all Android and iOS users. Some conditions do apply to these tools but most modern-day smartphones should support them.
Here is a list of all the features that are coming to Google Photos and what they do:
Magic Editor (Limited access)
Introduced with Google Pixel 8 smartphones, this AI-powered tool utilises generative AI to allow users to perform complex edits with ease. While it will be widely available on Android and iOS starting May 15, users will have 10 free saves per month. To continue saving edits beyond 10, users will need to be a Pixel user or have a premium Google One plan (2TB or higher).
Magic Eraser
As the name suggests, this tool lets you remove unwanted objects from your photos with a simple touch. It is quite a popular feature and having used it extensively, we can vouch that it works well.
Unblur
There are times when there is a slight shake of hand or sometimes more which results in blurry images being clicked. By applying the Unblur tool, users can restore clarity to blurry photos for a sharper image.
Sky Suggestions
If you live in Delhi-NCR or other regions where there seems to be a permanent haze, this is the tool for you. It allows you to change the sky in your photos to create a more dramatic or artistic effect.
Colour Pop
Not exactly a new feature but it does make a specific colour stand out while turning the rest of the photo black and white.
HDR Effect (Photos & Videos)
One can create high dynamic range (HDR) images and videos with improved contrast and detail. Google, however, makes it clear that to display photos in HDR, you need a compatible device. HDR photos are possible on displays with more than 1000 nits of brightness.
Video effects
Another popular tool that allows you to enhance videos with a variety of effects.
Portrait Blur
With the use of computational photography, you can easily add a professional-looking blurred background effect to portrait photos.
Portrait Light
Sometimes the lighting is just off in some images you click. With Portrait Light, you can adjust the lighting on your portrait photos for a better look. You can also add or balance light in your portrait photos for better control.
Cinematic Photos
Apple does it quite well but Google isn’t far behind when it comes to cinematic photos. You can add a dramatic motion blur effect to your videos for a cinematic feel.
Styles in Collage Editor
Users can apply different styles and layouts to their collages for a more personalised touch. Instagrammers would surely dig this tool to put a lot of images in just one photo
