Smart speakers seem to be taking over almost every household in the United States. Today, around 118.5 million households use smart speakers in the US alone, a number which only seems to be on the rise.
Of the many smart speakers available in the market, Google Home and Amazon Echo reign undisputed. And, while Google is continually adding new features to Home, there are still a few areas where it can be found lacking when compared to Amazon’s Echo.
Track a shipment
Alexa doesn’t give you detailed information about the location on the status of a shipment but can provide an estimated date of arrival to track an order. While this feature has been integrated into Google Assistant on phones, Google Home still cannot track a package directly.
Command at your convenience
The Amazon Voice remote lets you interact with an Echo device from out of the typical voice range. To accomplish the same feat using a Google Home, you’d have to pair it with a second Google Home, which would take a much greater toll on your wallet.
Customise without coding
While both Google and Amazon give third-party developers a platform to try their hand at skill creation; only Amazon offers a simple option for those unfamiliar with coding. Amazon features 20 templates in the form of Alex Skill Blueprints that are designed to let just about anyone create customised skills for Alexa by just filling in blanks without any coding.
Just ask ‘when’
Unlike Amazon Echo, Google Home cannot notify you when something you’ve ordered is out for delivery. With this feature, you can get notifications for shipments on Amazon or find out exactly when your pizza from Dominos is coming.
Stick to your routine
While both Google Home and Alexa speakers feature support for routines, only Alexa’s routines can be activated in a schedule. This will allow you to schedule your lights to turn on as soon as the news plays on the television. Routines on Alexa basically give you the ability to execute a command at a particular time without using your voice.
