AAP convener and Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal has returned back to Tihar Jail on Sunday, June 2, in the excise policy case after being out on temporary bail for 21 days to undertake poll campaign.
Before surrendering to Tihar Jail, Kejriwal along with his wife Sunita Kejriwal, Delhi ministers Atishi, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Kailash Gahlot and other AAP leaders also paid tribute at the Rajghat memorial and visited the Hanuman temple in Connaught Place.
On June 1, the Delhi court reserved its order until June 5 on the interim bail plea moved by Arvind Kejriwal, seeking interim bail extension by a week on medical grounds.
A took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to inform the public about his planned visits before scheduled surrender. The post reads, “First I will go to Rajghat and pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. From there I will go to Hanuman temple in Connaught Place to seek blessings of Hanuman ji. And from there I will go to the party office and meet all the workers and party leaders. From there I will again leave for Tihar."
He also thanked the Supreme Court for allowing him to campaign for elections. “All of you take care of yourselves. I will worry about all of you in jail. If you are happy, then your Kejriwal will also be happy in jail,” he said.
The AAP convener is expected to hold an organisational meeting on Sunday, prior to heading to Tihar, with elected representatives including MLAs and councillors at the party’s headquarters. He will also visit Rajghat and the Hanuman temple in Connaught Place.
On June 1, Arvind Kejriwal convened a meeting of the AAP's Political Affairs Committee at his residence. Atishi, Rajya Sabha MPs Raghav Chadha and Sanjay Singh, and MLA Durgesh Pathak were among the prominent leaders who attended the PAC meeting.
Ahead of the exit poll results, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal predicted that the INDIA bloc will win more than 295 Lok Sabha seats. He also predicted that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA)'s seat tally will be way below the majority mark.
Kejriwal, who was arrested on May 21 in connection with the Delhi excise policy case, is out on interim bail till June 1. In a virtual press conference Friday, he said he will leave his house at 3 pm on Sunday to surrender in Tihar.
