Mamata Banerjee's move to topple the central government has hit a hurdle. Tamil Nadu chief minister and AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa today said her party will vote against the government on FDI in retail, however, she did not back Mamata's no-confidence motion saying no one has contacted her on the issue.
Remember, the CPIM has already said 'no' to a no-confidence motion against the government. However, Jayalalithaa also added that her party is ready for an early election.
With just two days to go for the winter session of Parliament, the NDA will meet this evening to discuss their strategy. After the meeting the position of the BJP and JDU on backing Mamata's no-confidence motion is likely to be announced. CNBC-TV18 learns that BJP prefers a discussion and a vote on the issue of FDI in retail.
But the government is confident of a fruitful winter session. Parliamentary affairs minister Kamal Nath said the parliament will take up 25 bills for passage and introduce 10 new bills in the house. “Out of 102 bills pending in the Parliament, 23 bills, that is 17 in Lok Sabha and 6 in Rajya Sabha are under examination by respective department related parliament standing committee and one bill is under consideration by the select committee,” Nath told reporters.
