In a rerun of the 2014 election, the principal Opposition party, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), opted out of the 2024 election. Hundreds of their leaders and activists were rotting in jail. The third largest Jatiya Party entered a seat-sharing arrangement with the League. Even the 40 percent voter turnout was equivalent to 2014’s tally.

The election was held in 299 of the 300 seats. Official results are not yet available in full. According to local media, the League should win around 225 seats. Jatiya Party might bag 11 with the blessings of the Awami League. The remaining 55-60 would go to the independent candidates.
