Former JNU Students' Union (JNU) president and Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate Aishe Ghosh has been defeated by Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Hareram Singh in Jamuaria assembly constituency.

The seat witnessed a three-cornered contest between Ghosh, Singh and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Tapas Kumar Roy.

Ghosh ended up as the second runner-up, behind BJP's Roy. She lost by over 45,000 votes against Singh.

In other parts of Bengal as well, the Left Front along with ally Congress faced a rout. The coalition failed to win any constituency, as per the results and trends declared so far.
