As of 5:30 a.m., the meteorological department reported that a depression was located approximately 70 km southwest of Gaya, Bihar, and 60 km east-northeast of Daltonganj, Jharkhand. The system is expected to move west-northwest over the next 48 hours, affecting northwest Jharkhand, southeast Uttar Pradesh, east Madhya Pradesh, and northern Chhattisgarh.
On August 3, Jharkhand is anticipated to experience widespread mild to moderate rainfall, with some areas facing heavy to extremely heavy downpours. Isolated areas in northwest Jharkhand may see lighter rainfall.
Most of Bihar is forecast to have mild to moderate rainfall, with some heavy to very heavy rainfall predicted between August 3 and August 6.
On August 3, the IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall in the northern regions of Chhattisgarh, with isolated exceptionally heavy rainfall and heavy to very heavy rainfall in some locations.
From August 3 to 6, the Sub-Himalayan region of West Bengal is expected to see mild to moderate rainfall in most locations, with isolated parts experiencing heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.
East Madhya Pradesh is set to receive light to moderate rainfall, with heavy to very heavy rain expected at isolated spots from August 3 to 4, and extremely heavy rainfall on August 3. West Madhya Pradesh will experience light to moderate rain overall, with isolated heavy to very heavy showers from August 3 to 5.
East Uttar Pradesh will see light to moderate rain at many locations, with some areas facing heavy to very heavy rain and isolated extremely heavy rain on August 3. From August 4 to 6, light to moderate rainfall with occasional heavy showers is anticipated in the region.
East Rajasthan will have light to moderate rainfall in most areas, with isolated heavy rain expected from August 3 to 6, and very heavy to extremely heavy rain likely on August 3 and 4.
Residents in affected areas are advised to stay alert and implement safety precautions due to anticipated underpass closures and localized flooding. Heavy rain could reduce visibility, leading to traffic congestion and longer travel times, especially in cities. Potential damages include minor road deterioration, building damage, and a high risk of isolated mudslides and landslides, particularly in mountainous regions.
