Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled the prototype version of the Vande Bharat sleeper trainset at the BEML's facility."After Vande Bharat chair cars, we worked on Vande Bharat sleeper cars. Its manufacturing has now been completed. This train will go out for the trial and testing from the BEML facility today," Vaishnaw said. Once the prototypes of Vande Bharat sleeper cars are properly tested, then the series of production will start. "We will start the series of production after one-and-half years. Then it will be like practically every month two to three trains will start rolling out," he added.
According to him, the Vande Bharat sleeper train with 16 coaches is meant for overnight journeys and will cover 800 km to 1,200 km. The oxygen level inside the train and virus protection, a lesson learnt from COVID-19 pandemic, are added features of the train.
The new Vande Bharat sleeper trainset comes with a host of modern amenities and airplane-like features. The trainset will include a dog box in the Driving Trailer Coach (DTC), which can accommodate dogs belonging to either passengers or the Railway Protection Force (RPF). There are LED lights below the ladders for passengers heading to the washroom at night when the lights are off. In the pantry car, there are ovens, bottle coolers, compartments for desserts, and boilers as well as compact dustbins.
The Vande Bharat sleeper trainset features austenitic stainless-steel construction and is equipped with advanced crashworthy elements, such as specially designed crash buffers and couplers, to maximize passenger safety. All materials and components used in the trainset adhere to the highest fire safety standards, meeting the stringent EN45545 HL3 grade requirements.
