As part of the standard safety measure implemented annually during the foggy winter days, speed limits on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and Yamuna Expressway is likely to be reduced from December 15 till February 15.
With the onset of winter, traffic arrangements have been tightened on both the expressways. DCP (Traffic) Yamuna Prasad said, “During winter, fog reduces visibility on roads, making driving difficult. Due to freezing temperatures, roads also become slippery, increasing the chances of an accident. To avoid any untoward incident, we are planning to reduce the speed limit on the Noida Expressway and Yamuna Expressway soon.”
Taking strict action against overspeeding vehicles on the Yamuna Expressway, traffic police issued over 150 e-challans on November 7. Here are five points that people should keep in mind while travelling on these expressways:
1. The speed limit on the Yamuna Expressway will be reduced from 100 kmph to 75 kmph for light vehicles, and from 80 kmph to 60 kmph for heavy vehicles. On the on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway the speed limit will be reduced from 100 kmph to 75 kmph for light vehicles, and from 60 kmph to 50 kmph for heavy vehicles.
2. Light vehicles violating the speed limit are fined Rs 2,000, while heavy vehicles face a fine of Rs 4,000.
3. The officials have also planned to install fog lights at different locations to improve visibility, informed officials of the Yamuna Expressway toll operations.
4. Authorities will offer tea to truck drivers at night to ensure they do not sleep while driving.
5. Emergency services: The Jaypee Infratech that has developed 165 kilometer long Yamuna Expressway connecting Noida and Agra has deployed 15 patrol vehicles, six ambulances, six cranes, and six fire tenders along the expressway.
