Police sources told India Today that Mihir's evening started at a bar in the Juhu area of Mumbai, where he consumed alcohol. The 24-year-old then drove his friends back home in a Mercedes before taking the BMW for a "joy ride" on Marine Drive. Thereafter, he switched seats with his driver near Haji Ali.

The report further revealed that Shah admitted to driving the luxury car when it rammed the two-wheeler, dragging the victim Kaveri Nakhwa for 1.5 kilometre before fleeing from the site. As he was scared over the incident, Mihir left from the site immediately and reached his woman friend's residence in suburban Goregaon.
