Several high-profile constituencies are set to dominate the spotlight as Maharashtra gears up for polls on November 20, with Muktainagar emerging as one to watch closely.
Situated in Jalgaon district, Muktainagar is one of Maharashtra’s 288 assembly constituencies and one of eleven in the district. The constituency is currently represented by Chandrakant Nimba Patil, the sitting Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA).
Part of the Raver Lok Sabha constituency, Muktainagar is grouped with five other assembly segments: Chopda, Raver, Bhusawal, Jamner, and Malkapur. It serves as the administrative center of Muktainagar taluka in northern Maharashtra.
Nestled near the banks of the Purna River, Muktainagar is the most populous town in the taluka, with a population of 23,970 according to the 2011 Census. The town’s demographic balance includes 12,433 males and 11,537 females.
Electoral dynamics here have been intriguing. In the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections, independent candidate Chandrakant Nimba Patil clinched victory with 91,092 votes, narrowly defeating BJP’s Rohini Eknath Khadse, who secured 89,135 votes. VBA’s Rahul Ashok Patil followed with 9,751 votes.
The 2014 assembly elections saw BJP’s Eknath Khadse winning the seat with 85,657 votes, defeating SHS candidate Chandrakant Nimbaji Patil, who garnered 75,949 votes. NCP’s Arun Pandurang Patil and Congress’ Yogendra Singh Bhagwan Patil trailed with 6,499 and 4,495 votes, respectively.
