Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla on Friday shared a timelapse video of India from space, offering citizens a glimpse of his journey aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
The video, shot from the ISS cupola window, captures the station’s journey from the Indian Ocean along the east coast of India.
"This is a Timelapse video of Bharat from space. The@iss is moving from south to north from the Indian Ocean. We are travelling along the east coast of India. The purple flashes you see is lightening happening in thunderstorms all over the country. Once the lights fade and a dark region appears- that's Himalayas. As we cross over you see light starts to flood in because you are witnessing a sunrise in orbit. Also notice the stars in the background," Shukla posted on X.
He described the sight as a “mesmerising dance of natural elements". However, he said though much of the country was covered in clouds during the monsoon, he managed to capture glimpses of Bharat from orbit.
“Unfortunately I was up there during the monsoon season and it was mostly cloudy, yet I managed to steal a few shots of Bharat, one of which you are seeing," the astronaut wrote.
On Thursday, Shukla addressed a press conference in New Delhi alongside Union minister Jitendra Singh and ISRO officials, where he described the Axiom-4 mission as a historic achievement and a “mission for the entire nation."
He explained that the true benefit of executing a human space mission goes far beyond rigorous training, referencing India’s upcoming space endeavour Gaganyaan.
The Indian astronaut pointed out the unique challenges of space on the human body and said, “The experience is very different from what you learn on the ground. The body goes through a lot of changes. The body forgets how to live in gravity after spending 20 days in space."
V Narayanan, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), on Thursday said the first uncrewed mission of the Gaganyaan human spaceflight mission, G1, is ready to launch with the half-humanoid robot Vyommitra in December.
