Manipur unrest: Centre to send 90 additional companies of CAPF to state amid fresh violence

The Centre has decided to additional 90n companies of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) to ethnic-strife torn Manipur.

"The state would get around 90 companies of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), over and above the 198 companies that are already in Manipur," Manipur government security adviser Kuldiep Singh said. He was addressing a press conference after holding a security review meeting in Imphal.

More than 250 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in ethnic violence between Imphal Valley-based Meiteis and adjoining hills-based Kuki-Zo groups since May last year.

The security advisor said that 32 people were arrested in connection with vandalism and torching of properties of ministers and MLAs while around 3,000 looted weapons have been recovered.
