Karnataka Large and Medium Industries Minister MB Patil on August 23 defended the government’s decision to execute lease-cum-sale deed of 3,677 acres of land in Ballari to Sajjan Jindal-led JSW Steel Ltd.

His clarification comes after state cabinet's decision on August 22 to sell the land to JSW. State Law & Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil, who earlier opposed the plan to sell the land, said they took the decision under the legal compulsion.

Patil said that the sale followed a government order issued after a court directive and a subsequent cabinet resolution, leaving no room for any wrongdoing.
